Daphne Hyde, 17
Daughter of Hecate, Goddess of Witchcraft, Necromancy and Magic

14th March

Has been all over the place these couple days. Stayed home for a couple days with permission from Chiron and Mr.D to get some fresh air and this family gathering thing. It was just… Awful. Everybody’s all cheerful and just asking me about school and my love life. I don’t think they know the meaning of privacy, they’re just bombarding me with all of this questions and just complaining about the way I’m not always around during holidays and basically just bitching. I got tired after half an hour and sneaked out instead. I stayed home for couple of days after that, just to reconnect with a couple insignificant others my aunt forced me to meet. On the brightside, I got to watch One Direction live… not.

That same aunty that got me to go to the family gathering is also the one that got me stuck with the babysitting duty. My cousin isn’t helping either, she literally wore nothing to the concert, such a slut and she’s like what? 12? Let’s just say More Than This got stuck in my head for a couple of days after.

Glad to be back and probably will be skipping classes for the next couple days, i still can’t get their yelling and bitching out of my head yet. Their high pitched, squeaky voice replaying in my head is just terrible so maybe I’ll just take a nap.

“First friend? Then that makes me his second friend.” He smiled. “Being his only guy friend back then, he pretty much spilled everything to me. And I spilled back.” He leaned back, legs outstretched, arms still crossed. ” ‘Drifted apart and reconnected’? That reminds me of what happened at a New Year’s party. It was kinda sad, but it was also somewhat hilarious. Then it got annoying. So I had to shut him up for a while.” He stared at her, blankly. “I’m probably not making any sense right now, huh?” He asked, laughing slightly. “Do you want me to continue now, or would you rather hear the story later, over dinner. It is getting kinda late, and I am getting kinda hungry.” He stated, his stomach grumbling.

“Well technically yeah..” She was curious at what he meant as ‘spilled everything’, it’s not really the first thing that comes into your mind if you think of the word ‘friend’. “..And what do you mean by ‘spilled everything’ exactly?” Daphne decided to ask anyway, he doesn’t look like he minded. She too, relaxed in her chair by slouching down and crossing her legs at the ankle. “Wait.. New Year’s party? When was that? I didn’t recall seeing you.” She said. The guy that sat next to her really does fascinate her, she was now convinced that Matt could really be Kite’s friend, they have that same sort of carefree personality even if Kite expresses this by being openly pissed off at people. “Yeah, there’s this good Chinese restaurant just right around the corner, you could tell me on the way.” The cake arrived just in time, they silently stood up and out the door.

“Two years ago, I think.” He answered. “My mind gets too murky when it involves time. So yeah, two-ish years ago.” He looked at her, eyes meeting. “Daphne? Then it’s nice to meet you, Daphne.” At the mention of a ‘special camp’, he raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming on his face. “Special camp? Does it have the name of… I don’t know,” He rolled his eyes, then looked at her again. ” ‘Camp Half-Blood’? And before you ask, yes. I’ve been there, 2 years ago. That’s when I met Kite.” He leaned in on the table, arms crossed. “Stayed for a few months, then left. Now I’m back at camp, so I met him a few days ago. But enough about me, how did you know Kite?” He asked, curious.

Daphne didn’t even know Matt went to Camp Half-Blood, she never really saw him around back then but then again she was more of an anti-social back then. She was mostly holed up in bed or hiding in the woods around that time, it was her shy and emo phase where she thought it’s the end of the world because nobody likes her and all that stuff but none of that really mattered now. “Well I was his first friend in Camp Half-Blood and that was like 5 years ago? but then we sort of drifted apart and reconnected a few months ago.” She briefly answered. She didn’t find it necessary to point out her current relationship with Kite, since he appears to be sketchy and even if he is who he says he is, she’s not comfortable sharing things like that with someone she barely knew.

Bishop picked up the presents he dropped before he got forcefully dragged in to the cake shop, nearly dropping the presents again. He placed his presents on a table near the counter, and the redhead placed her shopping bags on the table as well. While Daphne was ordering, he opened his wallet, preparing to give the amount of money needed to pay for the cake. After paying, he grabbed the box with the cake and gently placed it on the table. He pulled out a chair and sat, tilting his head back and letting out a huge sigh of relief. If she hadn’t let him buy the cake, the guilt would stay with him until he dies. He moved his bangs a bit before answering her. “He’s my best friend, of course I know him.” He said, rather plainly. “My name is Josh Matthias Bishop, but you can call me Josh, Matt, or Bishop. Which ever you choose, it doesn’t really matter.” He raised his head and looked at her. “Nice to meet you, miss…?”

She threw him a confused glance as she took a seat next to him, “Best friend? Since when? If he had a best friend, i thought he would’ve told me” She glanced downwards, suddenly finding her converse very interesting, as the thought of Kite poured through her mind. She started to think about how much she have missed during those years they spent apart, but this guy is just so out of the blue, he didn’t even mentioned him in any of their conversations before. She snapped out of it when he asked for her name, “Daphne, Daphne Hyde.. But seriously, it’s not very likely for him to have a best friend since we both stayed in this special camp and he rarely ever leaves..” She gathered enough courage to look him in the eye, her fiery hair falling to her face.

Out of shock, Bishop dropped the presents, which were a pair of Toms shoes, a copy of 1Q84, and a plaid shirt, to the ground. “I am so sorry,” he said apologetically. He helped the redhead up, while he repeatedly say ‘sorry’ to her. He kneeled down to the ground and checked the condition of the cake. “I’m sure you can still use th- ah fuck.” He said, realizing the cake was ruined beyond fixing. “I could buy you another one. Really. We could go in and you could order the same cake. I’ll pay.” He opened the box that contained the cake, to see what kind it was. Vanilla? That’s a nice choice, he thought. His mind got distracted when he saw a chocolate plaque, with Happy 20th Birthday Kite written on it. Picking up the plaque, he looked at her and asked, “You know Kite? As in, Kite Fioretti?”

“Unless you could do magic, this shit is beyond repair.” She ironically stated. She wished she could just do a variation of that repair spell to do this. Daphne continued to pick up her things and stuffing it in her shopping bag, most of the things she bought has some dirt and cake stains. She was relieved to hear that the guy is willing to replace the cake as it was bought with the money from her savings. “Well then, what are we waiting for, come on!” She stood up and dragged the guy by his elbows and forced him to follow her. Daphne quickly placed her order on the counter while the guy payed. The mention of Kite took her by surprise, she didn’t know he has friends outside of camp as he rarely leaves camp and is a year-round camper. “Wait you know Kite? How?” She asked expectantly. “Who are you anyways? I’ve never seen you around.” And that’s saying something as she wanders in and out of camp a lot and with that comes the tendency to memorize some of the faces she comes across every now and then.

After lunch, Bishop snuck out of camp and went to downtown New York. Having no experience of sneaking out, he asked Kite for help (“Why do you need to go out of camp?” Kite asked. “Camp can get a bit stuffy, don’t you think? Also, I need to buy some things.” He replied).

After a successful afternoon going around New York buying presents for Kite, Bishop was ready to go back. He had just one more thing to buy: cupcakes. He walked down a street towards a cake shop, presents in hand, when his phone started to ring. He balanced the presents on one hand, and took out his phone. It was a text message, written in English. Even though he had a hard time reading it, he made no attempt in stopping on a crowded street. He treaded the street carefully, balancing the presents and reading the text message at the same time. He was nearly in front of the cake shop when he bumped into someone.

Daphne had spent all day trying to find the perfect gift for Kite, his birthday is a day away and she decided to go around New York for a bit. She though she could figure out something to buy him that’s not too expensive but still meaningful. After visiting various department stores, the redhead gave up and settled on a book full of Norse hymns and his birthday cake. The birthday cake she picked out was a classic vanilla flavored cake with honey flavored frosting, it was simply decorated with a white chocolate design. She was sure he would be delighted by the fact she incorporated some honey into the cake.

She juggled her various shopping bags, due to her habit of buying things she didn’t really need, and her cake while slowly but steadily trying to open the bakery door. She succeeded to safely make it outside but not long after, she was hit by hard surface. The redhead fell to the sidewalk with Kite’s birthday cake making a mess around her. “For Zeus’ sake! Watch where you going you fucking twat! Look what you’ve done!” She said, scrambling through her things that scattered all over. She looked up for the first time, a sight of a guy, maybe her age, with dark hair stood stoically with shocked expression. “Hello! Anybody there? You could a tleast help me out a bit here.”

Oh.. The increase of number in the unclaimed department slightly worries me but they’re always welcomed. I’m Daphne by the way, daughter of Hecate.

Oh, hi Daphne. Oh, a daughter of Hecate? Wow, that’s pretty awesome. I’m sorry, I’m still adjusting. This camp is just really unbelievable. I just read about mythologies in books, and now they’re becoming real!

Yeah, it takes time to get used to the initial shock of it all but you’ll get past that after a few years or so. Anyways, how’s camp so far?

Daphne’s powers were so amazing in her eyes, her powers weren’t anywhere near that. She didn’t even give her chance to answer before she opened the book and started casting a spell, it seemed so cool. It was a little childish, but that was exactly how she felt, like a child. She was so tempted to touch the fireball or something.

However, the cold response from the older girl made her feel uncomfortable. She had never faced such a rejection in her life, everyone always liked her, even the ones who were hard to approach. Daphne was not just another girl to mess with. “No, but your power is cool,” She put on a smile.

She saw the interest in the girl’s eyes and tries to ignore it. The redhead tossed the blazing ball as if it was nothing, the fire radiating heat to her cold hands. She isn’t scared of the ball hurting her since it was charmed to protect the caster’s body. “Er.. Thanks?” She replied with no trace of gratefulness in her voice. She really didn’t mind the compliment but she really wanted to be alone right now.

Daphne thought maybe messing with her a bit won’t hurt, especially if it would make her go away, so she tossed the ball a little bit harder then her hands ‘accidentally’ slipped resulting the fireball to be thrown in the direction of Addie. The ball set fire to a patch of grass right next to Addie’s hands. “Oh my bad..” She said with mock innocence.
